Fair of Italian Specialties &

Artisan Tradition

Cava de'Tirreni, a city steeped in tradition and rich in history, will host the final stop of the 2025 Gusto Italia in Tour season. From Friday, September 26th to Sunday, September 28th, the magic of traditional products and artisanal crafts will come to life between the historic center and the beginning of Corso Mazzini.

With free admission to all activities, the event will start at 4:00 PM on Friday and run continuously from 10:00 AM to midnight on Saturday and Sunday. The event is promoted by the CNA of Salerno, chaired by Antonio Citro and directed by Simona Paolillo, conceived and organized by the Associazione Italia Eventi, chaired by Giuseppe Lupo, with the patronage of the Salerno Chamber of Commerce, the Municipality of Cava de'Tirreni, and UNOE – National Union of Event Organizers.

"We're closing the long summer season of our traveling fair, which began last June from the Casal Velino marina, in Cava de'Tirreni. It's always exciting to return here: a place steeped in history, tradition, and brimming with highly esteemed artisans. We feel at home, and the same goes for the producers and artisans who come to showcase their excellence. I thank Mayor Vincenzo Servalli and Councilor Annetta Altobello for their support and patronage. At each stop, we strengthen our collaboration with local associations, so we can create engaging activities with those who truly know the area," emphasizes Giuseppe Lupo, president of the Italia Eventi Association.

"CNA Salerno supports these initiatives because they have the dual purpose of promoting craftsmanship and enhancing local businesses. Cava is a great showcase, and that's why we're committed to ensuring a high standard of quality, elegance, and professionalism in our offerings," explains Antonio Citro, president of CNA Salerno. "We care about this city; we have an office at the CAD (Central Regional Council) and are working hard to expand our network of services and partnerships. Our president, Carmen Lazzarini, is a Cava entrepreneur, a further sign of our openness to the city."

The Craft Festival is the most anticipated event for artisans in the Campania region, a showcase for creations of all things beautiful. Master craftsmen share and share their knowledge with young people, who have the opportunity to showcase their talents for fashion and art in the Festival's program of events...

Craftsmanship and innovation at the new workshop in the Cad district of Cava de' Tirreni.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was also attended by the regional councilor for innovation, Valeria Fascione, sealed the long-standing collaboration between the CAD and the association of artisans and small and medium-sized businesses of Salerno. "Bringing together artisanship and innovation isn't the future, it's the present, and CNA Salerno has done well to ride the wave of new technologies by opening its own office within the Center for Digital Artisanship, a unique and exceptional organization that looks ahead." With these words, Luca Iaia, national manager of CNA Marketing and Innovation, commented on the inauguration of the CNA Salerno shop, which took place yesterday in Cava de' Tirreni, right in the cradle of innovation, managed by Medaarch.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was also attended by the regional councilor for Innovation, Valeria Fascione, sealed the long-standing collaboration between the CAD and the Salerno Association of Crafts and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. "In a marriage that has already been celebrated for some time, the opening of the CNA office within the CAD, the Center for Digital Craftsmanship in Cava de' Tirreni, is the icing on the cake and allows us to walk together and closer towards the future," commented Amleto Picerno Ceraso, founder of the Mediterranean FabLab, the first digital manufacturing laboratory in southern Italy, who accompanied IAIA, also organizer of the Cambiamenti Award, dedicated to innovative companies, to discover the artificial realities that work in CAD. The CNA workshop inaugurated yesterday will offer all the services traditionally offered by the CNA to its members, combined with the opportunities offered by the fusion with that hotbed of creativity, digitalization, and technological revolution in which the artisans will be immersed thanks to the presence of the Center, located on Via Crispi. "We also want to represent the new generations of artisans," explained the president and secretary of CNA Salerno, Lucio Ronca and Simona Paolillo, who cut the ribbon with the Metelli representatives Tony Sorrentino and Maria Santoriello - being here means keeping up with the times, close to those artisans who seek the right balance between tradition and digital innovation and, last but not least, guaranteeing our regular services to this part of the province."

Craft Festival 2019

The "Il Gran Gala Dell'Artigianato" event took place from Friday, September 13th to Sunday, September 15th. The ninth edition featured many new features, complementing the objectives pursued since the first edition—raising awareness of the importance of education, open workshops, and the promotion of artisanal and artistic products—this year also added the promotion of natural craftsmanship, products and services created with highly environmentally friendly or recycled materials, focusing on the circular economy.

In the splendid setting of Piazza Duomo, the event's organizers, Tony Sorrentino and Imma Della Corte, welcomed the many onlookers who watched some of the team's artisans work and display their products, the result of skilled manual labor and the wisdom passed down from the great artisanal tradition of Cava and Salerno. The municipal administration is closely involved with the Festival, recognizing since its first edition the great economic value of craftsmanship and the importance for the new generations to train, understand tradition, and stay up-to-date in order to offer the market services and products that truly embody Made in Italy. Numerous artisanal skills were on display in the square: performances of historic rope-making techniques using vintage tools, one of the skills that made Cava famous, according to the tradition of the Santa Lucia district, as well as modern artifacts crafted following the art of recycling. The event concluded with a fashion show featuring six models and four male models, wearing wedding dresses and formal wear, and a message from Giosuè, the model who closed the show, demonstrating how craftsmanship has social value when it dresses and makes everyone feel special, even those with disabilities. "The artisans in the square showcased their skills and conveyed the message of a job opportunity for the young people of Cava de' Tirreni, who can start a craft business in times of crisis," concluded Adolfo Salsano, the newly appointed Councilor for Productive Activities. Tired but pleased, the organizers noted that the event was a moment to break down social distancing and open shops on the streets, but this is only the first step, as the artisans will open their workshops in October and welcome the curious, as well as those who want to learn and understand some of the secrets of the trade. "Training, informing, and promoting artisanal work in Cava and Salerno remain our goals," the organizers explained. "Our goal is to be ever closer to the younger generations and offer opportunities to grow and become a training center for future careers. This will help them understand all the opportunities offered by artisanal work, a true sector that can combat the economic crisis and offer great satisfaction to the younger generations, who must combine ancient teachings—the primary source of inspiration—with new technologies." A wedding contest will soon be launched, with the final draw in December, during the event's closing gala.

Craft Festival 2018

The Festival took place on Friday, September 14th, Saturday, September 15th, and Sunday, September 16th. "The Craft Festival attracted the participation of many skilled craftsmen, the result of collaborative efforts with the offices and organizers. These are important moments of great joy and interest, of discussion and exposure, like the Festival and so many others held in recent months, for the growth of the local area, the economy, and the Cava artisanal sector. Through the Festival channels, it will also be possible after the event to request a visit to the workshops, another opportunity to further appreciate the value and quality of the products and their uniqueness, and to make contacts to learn about the artisanal art."
